Hey there! I've just recently started a local Nerdfighters group. We're planning our very first gathering for this weekend. I was wondering what you guys did for your first meeting/how to break the ice and make everybody feel like we're a family...if you can get back to me, that would be fantastic
the first gathering where i met most of my best friends was before a maureen johnson book release party. we gathered in madison square park and just talked among ourselves for a bit.
it helps to have one or two people to kind of lead the gathering
we usually start our more “formal” gatherings by having everyone sit (or stand) in a circle, and we go around saying our names, wehn we first became a nerdfighter, and something cool like your own dftba inititalism or your favorite food or something
at that point, you’ve become more familiar with the people around you, and it’s pretty easy from there. at the gathering i mentioned earlier, we played doctor, doctor, dalek for bit, before heading over to the bookstore.

February Gatherings and Things!
You should come to one of these!
We should clarify, LBGTQ gathering is for LBGTQ nerdfighters and isn’t a general gathering, but anyone in the LBGTQ community, of any level of queerness, is welcome.
The transit museum gathering will be a smaller gathering then usual gatherings, so it seems, so if you’re afraid of crowds and things and haven’t been to a gathering yet, this would make a good first gathering! and I mean, trains! museum tickets are $5 if you’re under 17, and I believe $7 if you are over.
Bad wolf NYC is our biggest gathering in the next few weeks, we’re going to take to the streets of lower manhattan and post “vote saxon” posters, “bad wolf” chalk it up, maybe even some “I believe in sherlock holmes” signs. It’s going to be great and a fun day, so get on that.
And our last event of february isn’t exactly a nerdfighter event, but one of our own, the lovely Kelly Montoya will be playing a concert (with some other cool nerds) that afternoon/night and a ton of nerdfighters will be there and it’s going to be a load of fun!
Looking ahead in to march, the gatherings and the type of gatherings will depend on the weather! stay tuned.
