Hey there! I've just recently started a local Nerdfighters group. We're planning our very first gathering for this weekend. I was wondering what you guys did for your first meeting/how to break the ice and make everybody feel like we're a family...if you can get back to me, that would be fantastic

the first gathering where i met most of my best friends was before a maureen johnson book release party. we gathered in madison square park and just talked among ourselves for a bit.

it helps to have one or two people to kind of lead the gathering

we usually start our more “formal” gatherings by having everyone sit (or stand) in a circle, and we go around saying our names, wehn we first became a nerdfighter, and something cool like your own dftba inititalism or your favorite food or something

at that point, you’ve become more familiar with the people around you, and it’s pretty easy from there. at the gathering i mentioned earlier, we played doctor, doctor, dalek for bit, before heading over to the bookstore.

i mean, we’re all meeting up at comic con, but if you’re not gonna be there, then i don’t think there’s anything planned!!

BUT feel free to organize one yourself! new gathering organizers are awesome!

Hello! I am a Nerdfighter of New York, but I have never heard about New York gatherings. I hope I can come to some of them in the future, because I have never been to one before. However, I did see them on Elmify's channel (who I love, by the way), when she traveled to New York. This is not technially a question, but more of a comment to the Nerdfighters of NY. DFTBA! elmify came go a gathering once, yes :D it was a dance party gathering in I think january!

I’m glad you have found us, are you in the face book group? or follow the tumblr? we haven’t done much lately because a lot of people are away at camp and doing things, but we will have a gathering sometime this summer, I am sure :)

I saw a post about the Nerdfighters Documentary, so I decided to make this.

Nerdfighteria has changed my life, and many others. I know that there has been some turbulence within the community regarding the definition of a nerdfighter and the community changing, but I feel that this is just the sort of thing that will make us all see what nerdfighteria is all about. Being the best that you can be and decreasing worldsuck. I look forward to seeing this be produced. Also, check out their tumblr.
